NCIA 2017 Annual Award Nominations – Celebrating the Achievements of our Colleagues

Every year, NCIA makes a special effort to acknowledge individuals whose extraordinary skill and leadership improve Correctional Industries as a whole. Join your fellow CI professionals in recognizing the 2017 award winners for all their hard work and celebrate their achievements at the NCIA Awards Banquet.

With the exception of the National Staff Award (please see below for instructions on the nomination process for the National Staff Award), please send all nomination(s) with supporting information by Friday, October 7, 2016 to the NCIA National Office via email to memberservices@nationalcia.org.

Rodli Award

The Rodli Award recognizes a Correctional Industries Administrator/Director of Industries (former or current) who has made sustained, outstanding contributions to the Correctional Industries field and/or the NCIA during the course of his/her career.

  • Candidates must be working or have worked in Correctional Industries for a minimum of five years.
  • Candidates must be NCIA members for a minimum of three years prior to nomination (agency or practitioner membership applies.)
  • Candidates can be nominated by an NCIA member of any membership category.

Please be specific with regard to the acts/achievements for which you are nominating the individual. Please attach supporting documentation to this form. Nominations are not confined to staff members of the nominator.

Marketing & Sales Award

The Marketing & Sales Award recognizes an individual in the marketing and/or sales area of Correctional Industries who inspires trust and knows how to build relationships with customers, support and manufacturing personnel.

  • Candidates must be working or have worked in Correctional Industries for a minimum of three years.
  • Candidates must be NCIA members for a minimum of one year prior to nomination (agency or practitioner membership applies.)
  • Candidates should display a “can-do” attitude when it comes to solutions and sustaining the business under the most confining selling environment; a constant display of powerful and positive excitement presenting the Correctional Industries message and product line to the customer base; dedication to being an expert in their area of Correctional Industry business; and one who is considered by their customers to be a resource that can be relied upon to meet their needs.
  • Candidates can be nominated by an NCIA member of any membership category.

Jail Industries Award

The Jail Industries Award recognizes superior performance and supervisory excellence of a jail industries staff member who has made a significant and sustained contribution to a jail industries program.

  • Candidates must be working or have worked in jail industries for a minimum of three years.
  • Candidates must be NCIA members for a minimum of one year prior to nomination (agency or practitioner membership applies).
  • Candidates should excel in the utilization of human resources, effectiveness in meeting goals and objectives, and qualify of service or contribution.
  • Candidates must have the endorsement of their supervisor and jail industries administrator.

Please be specific with regard to the acts/achievements for which you are nominating the individual. Please attach all supporting documentation to this form. Nominations are not confined to staff members of the nominator.

National Staff Award

The National Staff Award recognizes the superior performance and supervisory excellence of a correctional industries staff member other than the industries director/administrator who has made a significant and sustained contribution to a correctional industries program.

  • Candidates must be working or have worked in Correctional Industries for a minimum of three years.
  • Candidates must be NCIA members for a minimum of one year prior to nomination (agency or practitioner membership applies).
  • Candidates should excel in the utilization of human resources, effectiveness in meetings goals and objectives, and quality of service or contribution.
  • Candidates must be nominated through their region, coordinated by the NCIA Regional Appointees to the Board, and have the endorsement of their supervisor and correctional industries director/administrator.

IMPORTANT:  The National Staff Award nomination process is coordinated by the Regional Chairs for each region.  You must request and submit your nomination form to your Regional Chair.  Submission deadlines are set by the Regional Chair.  The list of Regional Chairs are:

Western Region: Danielle Armbruster (WA)
Northeast Region: Joe Flaherty (RI)
Southeast Region: Julie Perrey (TN)
Central Region: Becky Deeb (IN)
South Central Region: Michael Moore (LA)

Do not send National Staff Award nomination forms to the NCIA National Office.


Corporate Member Award

The Corporate Member Award recognizes significant contributions by a corporate member to NCIA and/or the field of Correctional Industries that result in the technological, professional and/or legislative advancement of the field. Nominations for this award may only be submitted by CI practitioner or agency members.

  • Candidates must be working or have worked as a supplier or service provider to Correctional Industries for a minimum of five years.
  • Candidates must be NCIA members for a minimum of three years prior to nomination (corporate or corporate plus membership applies.)

Annual Report Award

The Annual Report Award honors the Jail or Correctional Industries agency that demonstrates excellence in design, content and in-house printing of their Annual Report. Offender contributions in the design, layout and writing of the report is encouraged. Winning reports will be displayed at the NCIA Annual Conference.

  • The Annual Report submitted must have been published within the proceeding twelve (12) months from entry date.
  • The Annual Report must have been printed utilizing Correctional Industries resources/offender labor. Printing may be outsourced to another Correctional Industries Print Shop.
  • All entries must be accompanied by a completed official entry form and submitted by the deadline of October 7, 2016. Five (5) copies of the annual report must be submitted.
  • Completed entry tags must be taped securely to the back of each report.

Judging will be based primarily on the Annual Report’s ability to effectively communicate the mission, spirit and financial position of the Correctional Industries Organization. Entries will be evaluated using a 100 point scale encompassing four distinct areas:

1. Creative Design and Layout
2. Quality of Printing
3. Content, Clarity and Accuracy
4. Overall Effectiveness and Impression

Some individual elements that will be rated in these broad categories include cover design, clarity of written text, use of graphics, presentation of financial information, layout, creativity, printing techniques, and the ability of the text to inspire, inform and motivate. A panel of five judges from the NCIA Vendor Community and Correctional Industries Practitioners will evaluate the entries and select the winner.
