REENTRY TASK FORCE
The NCIA Reentry Task Force was created to determine (a) what reentry activities were being conducted within correctional industries, (b) what role correctional industries has or should have in the nationwide reentry initiative, and (c) how this role could most effectively be recognized both internally and externally.
The Task Force determined that correctional industry programs have a critical role in the nationwide reentry initiative but their contributions are not universally recognized both inside and outside their immediate sphere of influence. The task force developed strategic objectives and action plans to meet the following goals:
- Raise public awareness and support for correctional industry programs and their contributions to an individual’s successful reentry back into society,
- Develop “best practice” standards for correctional industry programs in the area(s) of job skill training, life skills training, etc.
- Offer consultation and guidelines for correctional industry programs that are interested in adopting these practices and standards
The NCIA Reentry Task Force meets every year at the NCIA national conference in addition to teleconferencing at other times during the year.
